Womens’ work first brought me to my knees as I joined millions of refugees and volunteers dismantling borders. Women with swelling bellies and babies were leading their families across countries, breathing life into crumbling worlds through their innate powers of mothering. Fear, protection, insight, and healing were all alive. I was a budding political scientist, burning up with student fevers of untangling the politics of hurting people. I was captivated.
I decided to become a midwife to connect with the blood, the breath, and the roar of life and birth. However, I was devastated to find the psyche of modern midwifery had displaced women and power even from birth. I also realised that in the rigours of institutional midwifery I had collapsed my own intuitive, feminine life. I was depleted, and very far from the long, organic apprenticeships our midwife ancestors had experienced.
So I departed, and desired resurrection. I sought responsibility and true agency. I turned towards devotion of my cyclical nature, of ancestral work, of social justice, of life and death through the womb. I sought teachers who could guide and support me in learning how to deal with my own humanity in global realities. These are ongoing processes that require my consistently renewed commitment, and the reward is recurrent baptism into new depths of life and work.
There is nothing more important to me than thriving women.

In co-existence with formal education, my internal authority has sprung from my lived experience with menstruation, life and death through my own womb, my evolving relationship with ancestral knowledge and my forever relationship with nature.
